Canyon Ferry Lake

Canyon Ferry Lake is a tributary of the Missouri River and boasts over 33,500 acres and about 76 miles of shoreline.  It is located between Helena and Townsend and has residents from both towns living along its shores.  It is a place well known in the area for its many recreational opportunities.  Boating is one of its visitors favorite past times.  There are several marinas and boat ramps, day use areas, swimming areas, campgrounds, and of course Canyon Ferry Dam and Reservoir, where there's also a Wildlife Management Area.

And the fishermen love it too!  There are several species of fish, including Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Walleye, Perch, and Burbot.  Learn more about the fishing and its regulations at the State of Montana website.  Click here for a direct link to the Canyon Ferry Lake Fishing Guide.  Fish, Wildlife, and Parks even has an interactive fishing map for those who are really serious about their fishing.

There is an abundance of wildlife along its shores and in its waters also.  You see many antelope in the area and it has a great population of bald eagles, terns, pelicans, and several other birds for those who love to just sit, relax, and enjoy watching them.

Regardless of the water sport you enjoy, Canyon Ferry Lake is a fun place to do them all.
